The Paraway Motel takes its name from the famous cattle baron, Nat Buchanan. As one of the Territory's pioneer explorers, he was always riding, travelling with cattle or looking for new country. When asked by Aboriginals "where you go all along this time, Boss?", Buchanan always replied "far, far away place". From that, came the name 'Paraway'.
The Paraway Motel is locally owned and operated and is now closely affiliated with both the
Frontier Hotel and Top End Hotel in Darwin.
Some of our most recent guests have included Mal Meninga, Adam Brand, James Blundell and Becky Cole to name a few.
The Paraway Motel consists of 50 standard rooms as well as six executive rooms, a 120 seat restaurant and the delightful Junction Bar. The Carriage Restaurant is open Wednesday through to Monday and features the famous Stonegrill dining.
We can organise tour bookings and a courtesy pick-up service is also avaliable throughout the town area, bus terminal, airport and train station.
All guests staying at the Paraway Motel are bona fide guests of the Katherine Club Inc. situated only 50 metres from the motel, so you can enjoy a cold drink or play the pokies in a new and modern atmosphere. The Paraway Motel is also within walking distance to the town centre.
